Diwali came early this year for pet lovers in Chennai! On October 16th, 2022 (Sunday), pets and pet parents in the city came out dressed in their best to attend the Petcation’s Pet Show conducted in association with G Square. G Square is the number 1 real estate developer in Tamil Nadu, because of whom over 4000 families in the state are now happy home owners . The Pet Show was held at G Square’s up and coming Orchid Ville property, in Neelangarai.
Like any event that Petcation organizes, the Pet Show too was conducted with the sole purpose of showing pets a good time. Pets in the city have very little opportunities to interact with each other and make friends. Petcation’s Pet Show handed them that opportunity, which the pets happily made the most of! No rain nor shine could keep pets and pet parents away from Orchid Ville that day, as they all made a beeline for it from every nook and corner of Chennai.
The open, spacious plots in Orchid Ville were a boon for pets! They merrily ran across all plots, enjoying the fresh morning air and their feet on the rain- kissed grass. It was also wonderful to see pets who barely knew each other behaving like long lost friends! Since their wards were engrossed in each other, the parents took the time to inspect the plots. Parents also swarmed the tent, where the event’s co-sponsor TVS Sundaram Motors, had parked their majestic sedan, the Mercedes-Benz AMG 35. In short, the event catered to the needs and interests of both pets and parents.
Being quiet a sunny Sunday, we thought that this high level of activity, interaction, and excitement will drain the pets of all their energy even before the event registration process ended!! But thankfully, the event’s co-sponsor, Scooby’s cafe, made sure that both pets and parents stayed energized and enthused till the end. Their Food Stall at the event served up some refreshing juices and delicious snacks that helped all attendees – both human and animal – beat the heat and feel nourished. Scooby’s Cafe is a hot and happening pet-friendly cafe in Nungambakkam, Chennai. It is the only pet cafe in Chennai that serves cakes made with chicken for dogs, and cakes made with tuna for cats. The popsicles that they served to pets at the event were a huge hit!!
Once our stars (the pets) and their entourage (the parents) settled down after a sumptuous snack, the real fun and games began! Three contests were held at the Pet Show – one each for the Best Groomed Pet, the Best Behaved pet, and the Most Fashionable Pet. The Best Groomed Pet contest was judged by Ms. Vijayalakshmi, the owner of Eddy’s Kitchen. She is a specialist in preparing and delivering healthy, tasty, home-cooked meals for pets. As these meals do not contain any harmful preservatives, parents can confidently include them in their pet’s daily diet. The Best Behaved Pet contest was judged by Mr. Sharadh from Chennai Sniffers Dog Trainers. His establishment has helped many pet parents in Chennai understand and handle their pets better. The judges patiently interviewed every pet parent, closely observed each pet’s movement and temperament, and scored them accordingly. Hazel’s ( golden retrever) luscious, well-maintained mane won her the Best Groomed pet award. Arya’s ( golden retriever) sweet, affable nature and even temperament won her the Best Behaved Pet award.
Then came the highlight of the show – the Pet Fashion Show. Pets cutely ‘dog-walked’ down the ramp with their parents as part of this show. The confidence and attitude that the pets exhibited on the ramp could give even professional models a run for their money!! Parents had also taken care to dress up their pets in fancy costumes, and accessories, which added a lot of color and pizzazz to the fashion show. Choosing a winner for the fashion show was tough, because of the cuteness overload. So eventually, the judges picked two winners instead of one. Pretty girl Venba (labrador) and cutie pie Shero (shih tzu) shared the title of Miss. Pet Show. Venba’s incredible costume and her queen-like strut, and Shero’s adorable pony tail and her overall ‘coolness’ were the clinchers!
Mr. Vijay – AVP Marketing – G Square, and Ms. Sharmila – owner Scooby’s cafe – gave away the medals and tiaras to the winners. But for us at Petcation, every pet who attended the Pet Show that day was a winner. To prove that point, winner medallions and certificates were given to all pets who were present. It was immensely fulfilling for all of us at Petcation to watch parents and pets walk out of the venue with the same happiness and excitement that they walked in with!! After all, happy pets make a happier world!!
